They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47 (NLT)

PART TWO – Unity Community

Go to PART 1 >>

In Matthew 22:38-40, Jesus says “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

The greatest commands were around community and family… not signs and wonders, not leadership and power, not laws and obedience, but love for one another…

Miracles happen, we need leadership, and there is power in unity… but unity is the point. Unity is not conformity, but love and value for our fellow humans. Unity is truly miraculous. When people can join together, break bread, laugh, comfort, share, etc with people of different backgrounds and experiences, even ideas and opinions, that’s a miraculous sign to those around us that the power of God’s love is truly transformational and transcendent.

As the “early church” was outworking this new faith and way of living, they had an incredible impact on those around them. The end of Acts 2:47 says “And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were BEING saved.”

Those who were ‘BEING' saved. Salvation can be a process. Faith is a journey, not a destination. We tend to look for the ‘moment’ where someone awakens to the love of Jesus and accepts it as truth. However, for many it’s not a single moment, but a tapestry of events woven through their lives that slowly reveals to them the love and grace of God. As we gather together and live in community, allow people's journey to be just that… a journey.

Continue to share and to love, to hope and to pray for and with one another. You never know where people are at on their journey. Be generous with your acceptance and invitation. It’s consistent faith and love that makes a difference in people's lives… unity and community is what is truly miraculous in this world and makes all the difference.
