And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. John 8:32 (NIV)

PART 1 – The Truth is Out There

What is truth?

Is it absolute? The same for everyone? Black and white?

How do you KNOW the truth? Is there a top level of truth knowing? Can you read it in a book? Buy it from a shop? Can it be owned? Is it static? Or can it change?

You just have to go on Facebook, blogs, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, watch TV, have conversations with friends or strangers to learn that there are many different ideas and concepts on truth… each pertaining to be THE truth and each being different.

With so much ‘truth' out there, how do you know what it actually is?

The Greek word for truth used here is “Aletheia” and subjectively it means, “Truth as a personal experience.” Objectively, Alethia is the truth and/or reality that is taught. In other words, something that we learn. And what is the best way to learn? Personal experience.

John 8:31 (NIV) says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” The NKJV says, “If you abide in my word…” When Jesus walked the earth and ministered to the people, he spent most of his time teaching in action and in word. And still, by the time he went to the cross, his disciples hadn’t learned everything. They missed some things, they couldn’t foretell others, they needed him to explain parables and retell stories to grasp ‘The Way’ that Jesus was forging.

Truth is not a ‘something' to attain, it's a continual journey of growth and study. Our personal experiences subjected to grace.

For example, you can know that the truth is that you should forgive those who hurt you, but you’ll never know the truth about forgiveness until you walk it out. Step by step, day by day. Truth by personal experience, led by Christ.

You’ll take a whole lot of pressure of yourself if you stop living to attain and start living to learn. Truth isn’t something we possess, truth is a process, a way, it's the undercurrent of all life, found in Jesus.

I am the way, the truth, and the life…” Jesus, John 14:6.

Truth can be found when you walk down the path of life led by Christ. And since we are eternal students, never able to fully grasp the wonder and majesty of God, it grows and morphs and changes through our different seasons and circumstances. Don’t hold onto dogma as truth… Hold onto Jesus.

It will set you free.
