And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. Micah 5:5 (NKJV)

It would seem here in Micah 5 that the people were expecting an invasion… Expecting trials and hard times… BUT in all their expectations of tribulation, their hope of God's goodness in the midst of all that could go wrong, was stronger! I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but being a Christian does not mean you’ll have a problem free life. Still, we get stunned when things go wrong… I know I do.

1 Peter 4:12 says ” Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.” Life happens every day in many ways. We build a false sense of security with possessions, insurances, friends, money… And although they help, when life comes crashing down, your peace often does too. Jesus says in John 16:33 in The Message Bible, “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world, you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.”

The Israelites in Micah 5 knew that only in God that they would find true peace. No matter what was happening around them, they would find themselves at rest in Jesus.

Whatever is going on in your world today – look to Jesus. He is your peace, your strength and your rest.
