But there’s also this, it’s not too late. God’s personal Message! “Come back to me and really mean it! Come fasting and weeping, sorry for your sins!” Joel 2:12 (The Message)
The book of Joel is a prophetic book, and there are many discussions and different interpretations around its content. But we wanted to bring out one thought:
It is not too late.
Ever.
An invincible army was marching forth; the people were terrified and would surely perish, yet still God reached out to them with “It is not too late…” Joel 2:12-13 in NLT says “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.” The references to fasting, weeping, mourning and tearing your heart isn’t about God wanting you to suffer… He wants the turn towards Him to be genuine, authentic and real… Not a show or a token offer. God extends mercy, compassion and His unfailing love to us and desires that we would accept His gift wholeheartedly.
And the gift is unrelenting. It's always there and ready to be opened, accepted, taken.
It’s never too late to accept Jesus as your Saviour – you are never too far gone, or too sinful, or too offensive for God. But it also goes beyond salvation. Lam 3:23 says “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” It’s for you today… It’s never too late to reach out to God… It’s never too late to pick yourself up and keep on going… His grace will empower us; His peace will lead us, and His love will sustain us.
There’s a quote I’ve seen on Pinterest lately: “It’s never too late to be who you might have been…” In God, all things are possible, and it is never too late. So reach out to Him – His mercies are new every morning; His compassion does not fail, and His love is everlasting.
It is not too late.
